On behalf of our client, we are looking for an enthusiastic veterinary surgeon to join their dedicated 9 vet, 11 nurse, small animal clinical team at our RCVS Accredited Hospital located in Buckinghamshire.

The present Hospital was built in 2009 and provides a modern fully equipped facility with 3 operating theatres, and a superb in-house laboratory staffed by qualified lab technicians. The Practice undertakes its own orthopaedic surgery including TTA Operations. The Practice is very friendly and supportive, providing an excellent environment to develop your general veterinary and surgical skills.

The Hospital's primary focus is the care of inpatients undergoing surgical or investigative procedures, and is supported by 4 local branch surgeries situated nearby. From these, pets are referred to the Hospital for inpatient procedures.

To provide the best continuity of care, 2 vets are assigned to each branch surgery, and follow their cases through to the Hospital for inpatient care.

The Hospital is situated on the edge of the Chilterns with excellent road and rail access to both city and rural pursuits.


Job Details:

JOB TITLE - Equine Clinician

Main function of the job:


To provide for the veterinary needs of all horses by carrying out and overseeing preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic care in conjunction with colleagues and clients.



Main duties:

 To assess all cases, formulating and implementing preventative, diagnostic and treatment plans as appropriate.

 To ensure all treatment is carried out in accordance with practice protocols and established good practice and client wishes.

 To maintain regular communication with clients regarding case progress, ensuring clients are advised of case costs and informed consent is given for procedures.

 To ensure case progress corresponds with client expectations.

 To maintain accurate and complete clinical records, including correct charging for all goods and services.

 To carry out diagnostic procedures as required, liaising with veterinary colleagues as necessary.

 To operate anaesthetic machines, ultrasound and x-ray equipment in accordance with practice protocols.

 To prescribe veterinary medicines as appropriate, ensuring compliance with legislation covering dispensing, handling, recording, controlling and storage of drugs, medicines and other substances.

 To liaise with clients and referral veterinarian if cases referred for specialist opinions outside the practice.

 To maintain a good working knowledge of current best practice and ensure own development of CPD in accordance with RCVS requirements.

 To ensure colleagues are fully conversant with all relevant case details prior to transferring responsibility for cases.

 To participate in the out of hours service and weekend work in accordance with the practice rota.
